I got this band's new EP as a promo and was impressed enough to go back and dig up their debut from 2010. This is a Russian band playing very standard Symphonic Metal in the vein of classic Nightwish or Visions of Atlantis, they are just doing it really well. They have to overcome the fact that there is nothing original about their sound by being good, and they are. The production is excellent, the performances are solid, and lead vocalist Valentina Yastremskaya has a smooth, rather soulful voice with just the right amount of operatic inflection. The songwriting on this debut is pretty good, with some standouts like "New Dawn, New Day", only sometimes getting too drawn out and dull. The male vocals from keyboard player Dmitriy Taranov are passable, if not great, but you don't hear them very much. This band just has an ear for good melodies and maintains a good level of energy throughout, making for a more than enjoyable listen for fans of the style.
