Death/thrashers Tyrant Disciple' debut album, Weight of Oblivion, has 10 cuts of Death/Thrash Metal with near neck-breaking speed and is a rather interesting acquaintance on the map of tales of the thousands of lakes, Finland. There really aren't that many bands in Finland nowadays that want to have an unholy marriage between Death and Thrash Metal. They choose to play one or the other. Tyrant Disciple are, more or less, odd fishes in the water.

Musically, one could make references to such names as The Crown, Witchery and even At the Gates. Where those three Swedish band have managed to do it relatively well with a certain captivating style, Tyrant Disciple seem to lack the experience needed to make their songs as catchy as that of their Swedish counterparts and try to make up for it with their relentless aggression, resulting in a pretty one-dimensional approach. It's a pity because these guys can play: the riffing is very good, the music has the needed aggression, the use of both death grunts and more shrieking snarls works well, but it has sounds too samey. At least on "Blood Countess" they tried something different and adopted a more mid-paced approach, which is probably the road they should choose in the future, instead of intense and merciless punching.

I don't know what on earth happened to the drum's sound in the studio, but unfortunately, it sounds like someone walking barefoot and drunk on the floor. Weird...

The band shows signs of promise on this record, so I am pretty confident they may kick our asses in the future. Time will tell...
