I didn't really know what to expect of a band named "Ilsa" (I kept thinking of the movie Ilsa: She-wolf of the SS). Corpse Fortress turned out to be a nice surprise. The band play very heavy doom/death with an absolutely crushing and haunting atmosphere that makes parts of the album almost scary (I don't scare that easily, but I could see some people hearing it in passing freaking out a little bit). The vocals are kind of tortured, harsh but often clean enough to be decipherable and really add to the haunting vibe. You'll find some faster songs that get the blood pumping, but it's with the slow parts that the band deliver a crushing blow that will knock down the most upbeat listener and make them cry. I take doom/death in small doses and don't listen to the genre all that often, but this one has been a regular on my playlist for a while now, so it has some staying power.
