In Malice's Wake have been one of Australia's most promising Thrash acts for quite some time. Ever since their debut back in 2008, this is a band that's just been getting better with each release and their fourth album, The Blindness of Faith shows them continuing that trend with stride. There's nothing surprising here, as they still sound like the bastard offspring of Testament and Slayer, successfully mixing the technical heaviness of the former with the dirty, evil atmosphere of the latter. The twin-ax attack of Leigh and Shaun still blasts out more killer riffs and stellar solos than you can count, Shaun's Cuck Billy-esque grunts are still in fine form, Mark's skin-bashing is as devastating as ever, and Karl's heavy-handed bass lines are still heavy enough to break through solid concrete. What keeps it from being a simple retread is the fact that this is a further refinement of their sound, and the opening title track sets the tone for the album and the band as a whole: brutal, ravenous Thrash with speed and aggression to spare that'll effortlessly drill through your skull as it blazes out of the speakers with the intensity of brimstone. Overall, this is just more first-rate Thrash from one of Australia's finest, and if you've had the misfortune to miss out on them so far, start here immediately.
