If epic black metal is your thing, Soli Control II Mondo is bound to be of interest. The band's style reminds me of a few bands from the French scene circa 2000; heavy, mid to fast-paced black metal with good roots in traditional riffage and well-placed melodies that give the album more punch. Throw in a few rawer, barebones passages for good measure and also a subtle folk vibe that's like icing on the cake. The vocals are the raspy style one would expect and not particularly decipherable (this is sung in Italian, so for most people that won't make much difference). My main beef with it is that there are some clean-ish vocals that sometimes break the mood, though most are fine. Overall, Soli Control II Mondo is good epic melodic black metal that knows how to deliver a punch. |
