Review

Brazil has had more than a few killer metal bands through the years, and Ignited is looking to be the next. From what I can gather, this is their debut album, and it definitely shows promise.

The Good—Heavy Metal in the vein of Painkiller or Firepower-era Judas Priest is the order of the day. Hell, the first track "Ignition" would fit right in on either of the aforementioned albums. The vocals really sell this as well as vocalist Denis Lima does his best Rob Halford imitation. Not as good as Rob but pretty damn good overall, which is pretty impressive. The guitars kick out one memorable riff after another that gets your head nodding, and you remember the good old days of live shows.

The Bad—This album is a debut, and it shows. Some songs feel like they aren't finished. "Shining Void" has this great groove going to it, and it just ends rather suddenly. It's almost as if they couldn't really figure out exactly how to end the song, so they just kept playing and used a fade-out. The guitar solos need some work. They come across as a bit disjointed. Where you would expect a blazing series of notes, suddenly there is this very deliberate and slow-moving solo. The production is bright, and the album needs some more bottom end to give it more weight.

It might seem that I did not like the album, but I actually did. It certainly has flaws, but none of those flaws are things that can't be fixed on subsequent albums. Like I said, this is a debut album and for most bands the debut album is an enormous learning experience. I truly think this is a band worth keeping tabs on as I think the talent is there and with some more seasoning, we could see some excellent things from them in the future.
