Canada's been consistently turning out traditional metal bands over the past decade or so, and Tyrants of Chaos is another from the Great White North. Relentless Thirst for Power is their third album and the first I've heard. The promo came touted as being for fans of bands like Judas Priest and, sure, it's full of chugging traditional metal, often on the speedy side, but I don't hear much Priest, except maybe the opening riff from "Slay the Hostages" which sounds like something from Sad Wings of Destiny. Mostly Relentless Thirst for Power is simple and punchy with strong if not amazing performances. There are tracks with smooth vocals and an epic vibe like "The Black Gap," while others are more in-your-face anthems like "Tyrants of Chaos" and "Lucky Dog." They slow it down and get heavy, both in riffs and subject matter, with songs like "Nightmare Machine" and "No Lives Matter." They have a nice sound, with especially good tone to the bass, but none of the songs jumps out at me, so the album is one of those "good while on but not overly memorable afterward" records. There's always a certain amount of personal preference, so if bands like Striker, White Wizzard, Night Demon, Midnight Priest, etc. are in your playlist, you might find something like from Tyrants of Chaos.
