Tenth album from Immortal, now fully a solo act for Demonaz except for session drums by a guy named Kevin Kvale, who seems to play in a lot of bands you've never heard of. Following up Northern Chaos Gods – a damn near perfect album – was never going to be easy, and while this is what you'd expect from an Immortal album, it does feel a bit rote. The riffs are good, the sound is good, but the songwriting is just a bit flat, and doesn't really go past what has become standard for this band. Kvale is a perfectly good drummer, but he's not Horgh and you can tell – the playing is just noticeably less technical and less heavy. The production overall is a bit weaker than I would like, and while this is fine while it's on, it's pretty much indistinguishable from other late-period Immortal works.
