This split is an odd pairing as Integrity is more of a hardcore/punk band with some thrash leanings, while Krieg is a black metal band. I'm not much into hardcore and punk, though I do like a few bands here and there, and Integrity certainly picked my interest with their part of the split. It's fast, brutal, chaotic and rocks quite a bit. Definitely the kind of stuff that gets you headbanging and I certainly wouldn't want to be up front during these guys' live show as chances are I wouldn't come out alive—or at least intact. There are some metal influences here, old-school stuff for the most part, so the hardcore/punk base shouldn't be too much of a turn-off for most metalheads with an eye on Krieg's half. Integrity is definitely the most thrashing, moshing part of this split. Krieg. Well, it's Krieg, so we're now into raw, primitive black metal territory here (though Krieg have had their weird moments over the years; not here). The songs here sound like a mix of the raw, straightforward black metal of the end of the '90s and the early 2000s, the stuff from those bands that didn't get over the top and just plowed ahead, trend of the day be damned. It's nothing I'd call out of the ordinary, mostly because so many bands are doing it, but it's certainly well-executed black metal with dark-sounding rasps, no frills, and a good amount of dark melodies that flow very nicely (well, nicely as far as raw, no-frills black metal goes). A Krieg album full of this stuff would make me happy. So, interesting split in that it features two bands with little in common, but makes you want to explore their respective discographies.
