Twin Obscenity, despite the Lovecraftian name, styled themselves a Viking Metal band, and their lyrical focus certainly reflected that. Ten years ago the genre was much less defined, and this is pretty much state of the art for 1998 Viking Metal. For Blood, Honour, and Soil is firmly Black Metal in style and approach, with a killer guitar sound and a lot of fast riffs. They do break up the assault with moodier passages and extended instrumental breaks. Vocals are an expected Quorthon-ish rasp, interspersed with some nice female singing. Overall I have to say this is good, if not great. Ten years ago this was the standard, but there are many better bands out there today. Still, this is an enjoyable disc, and it beats crap like Einherjer right the fuck up.
