This is a band with a very funny name would you say, and I totally agree. Not easy to determine what kind of music a trio with such a weird name could come up with. Even the title The Serpent Coven is not really helpful!

No, this not some sort of strange progressive, experimental or esoteric music either. Their style has nothing groundbreaking, and nothing included on this CD has not been heard before. Basically, this Wandering Midget is nothing else than a Doom Metal act. I'm not sure how they got their name, perhaps the result of a bio-chemical experience of some sort. Anyway, here again Eyes Like Snow has provided us with some good ol' generic Doom Metal. Contrary to the other, Sabbath-ish inspired release, The Serpent Coven does not have the same potential for leaving a lasting impression in our memory. This album does not possess the crunchiness/darkness level I like to hear from a Doom Metal release - the guitar work is not and neither is the rhythmic section. My biggest problem is the vocals of Samuel Wormius. They are far from suiting this type of music, and they would fit better in the mainstream scene. This type of voice would be more appropriate for a Heavy Metal band. Oddly enough though, the vocals are reminiscent of a psychedelic band called Iron Butterfly, if you happen to be old enough to know them. As far as I'm concerned, the best track is called "Bring Forth the Accused". It contains most of what one could expect to find in this type of music and sounds more like a bass and guitar solo alternating.

Doom Metal with clean vocals is a bit risky, since not everyone is Ozzy.
