Included in Regain's four-pack, along with the clownish Nifelheim, was this Necrophobic disc. At least, I thought, there was one good album in the lot. Well, I was disappointed after hearing Death to All. I'm looking for more atmosphere and harmonies in Black Metal.

This album is basically straightforward, "in your face" hyper blasting style of furiousness. Those guys played safe by incorporating, in every song, blast beats, tremolo picking galore, wicked rasps and so on. You guessed it right, redundancy settles half way through the album. When the pace does moderate, they start using some sort of clean "choirs" that is to be heard in every other compositions starting from "La Santisima Muerte". I don't mean to say this disc is awful, just redundant. On the other hand, the musicianship is excellent and the guitar work is superb. Once in a while, melodic arpeggios and leads add more refinement to their songs. They lack variation and atmosphere in general. "Revelation" is one of the best tracks presented here, for its calmer parts near the end, and the good distorted arpeggios. Although I would have hoped for something more elaborate from the title track (being sub-divided into three parts), the last parts bring up the harmonies a bit with classical guitars.

I was expecting more from Necrophobic, but at least it was much better than the ridiculous Nifelheim.
