This sort of came out of nowhere; a melodic metal band that is actually really mature and interesting even on their very first demo. Silent Wedding is one of those odd cases where they sound exactly like something I just know I've heard before, but I just can't put my finger on exactly what. It's a bit reminiscent of bands like Blaze Bayley, sometimes of acts like Honey for Christ from Ireland...but it's all just fragmented moments where these similarities are apparent, and it ends up being quite maddening. The vocals on here are smooth and melodic, sometimes also reminding me of that guy from Axehammer.

The band has some addiction to writing long songs. They are pretty clearly an ambitious act, wanting to show the world every ounce of their talent possible, but in doing so they do indeed show their youth as a musical entity. The compositions here are a bit loose and convoluted at times, with too much crammed into them to remain compulsively playable. Tightening up the songwriting should be their main priority for later. Also, some of the vocal melodies, like on "I Am You" could use work, as they're just not as good as the songs they're based around.

That does not stop them from being entertaining anyway though. I enjoy the somber dedication to morose-ness on here, as every song packs carefully woven chords and slow build-ups to achieve a point – although perhaps it's too long on most of these songs. It's strange, because the riffing is usually the band's weaker point; they are better when they slow down and play one of those wistful melodic passages. It is a rather melancholy demo at times, especially on the nine-minute "Shattered Dreams," which I'm not completely sure is appropriate for a wedding, but it is nonetheless captivating when it wants to be. "Haley's Eve" is the other standout, building up slowly into a chamber of dark melody and powerful vocal acrobatics. Kick ass.

Case in point, do not make your wedding silent. Make it loud. Loud like this band. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but Silent Wedding seem pretty confident on their first demo. You should go check this out if you like some good Heavy Metal. Recommended.
