The debut EP by this Thrash band from Croatia reminds me a lot of the dark realms of Thrash. Unlike my favorite Bay Area movement that spread its wild menace with such aggressive passion, this band inhales deeply of the gloomy atmosphere of Doom. Much of what you hear on Dark Enemies has a strong affinity with the roots of Metal. Black Sabbath, for instance, is prominent among the band's influences. There are also echoes of 80s bands like Venom and Celtic Frost.

At first, Dark Enemies sounds like it really has something to prove. It is raw, filled with evil and the preachings of evil. It isn't To Mega Therion or Welcome to Hell but it seemed sufficient at first. With the last tap of closer "World at War," I have to admit that Thrasheta aren't that impressive after all. It begins with a less than stellar production, not unlike newer Venom or Celtic Frost, and it ends with a lot of uninteresting material.

Only the Sabbath-like "Slave," that seems to be on heavy drugs, and the closer "World at War" have anything cool to show. The latter takes a turn into the realms of silence but returns strong in the end. Thrasheta don't go that far into the old school world on this release and while they did try some unusual Thrash, on Dark Enemies, it was a bit tiresome.
