A band name like The Murder of My Sweet just screams Gothic Metal and that is certainly what this female-fronted band delivers on Bye Bye Lullaby. Keyboards carry most of the melodies with the guitar, bass and drums supporting. Singer Angelica Rylin has a nice voice, though nothing extraordinary. The band's melodic and melancholy songwriting bears a lot in common with recent works by Epica and Delain, but with more of a "pop" feel. At times, Bye Bye Lullaby is like listening to Olzon-era Nightwish or even Evanescence. There are certainly catchy numbers, like "Resurrection" and "I Dare You," with earworm choruses that spring into your head hours after you've listened to them. Others, like the slick "Kind of Lousy," will have you wondering who turned on the radio.

Bye Bye Lullaby is well played and sounds terrific but it is a little too "Gothic" and not enough "Metal." If you like this style, you won't hate Bye Bye Lullaby, but it won't make you won't forget your favorites.
