This is the fifth album for this obscure Serbian horde. They have a career stretching back to 2001, yet this is my first experience with their work, though I have heard some reverential things over the years. Apparently they were more of a pagan-styled band when they started, but this is pure hell-blasting second-wave Black Metal all the way.

Too many BM bands think they can just blast away and not pay attention to their riffs, or that they can replace solid musicianship with speed, but this band does not make those mistakes. This is obviously a tight, veteran band with solid songwriting and classy riffs that do way more than just take up space. These songs are long and involved, with powerful riffs, hooky melodies, and some really good lead work. The compositions drag on sometimes, but not too often. The guitar sound is a jagged, razor-edged delight, and the vocals are a howl of torment without verging into screech territory. This is a band who really have their shit together, and they put together songs that are light-years ahead of most wannabe bands. Killer shit.
