Well, Nile have been in a rut, haven't they? After the uneven Those Whom the Gods Detest they produced the badly-produced, sloppily written At The Gate Of Sethu and I was pretty sure that was all the good stuff we would see from this once unstoppable band. After all, they have reached a point where they could just keep touring based on their stellar back catalog and to hell with making good new music, right? Well, I am pleased to announce that the new album What Should Not Be Unearthed is a fine return to form.

This time out the band is less experimental and much more straightforward, all without losing the trademark technicality that has made them famous. Unearthed is full of blazing, blistering Death Metal in the best Nile tradition. This is not as heavy and pummeling as In Their Darkened Shrines or Annihilation of the Wicked, nor anywhere near as epic. But Karl and co. have gotten back to what people wanted from them, and cranked out a hooky, complex, and powerful workout of their signature sound. If you are a Nile fan, you can grab this without hesitation.
