Almost shocking to get a promo from an unsigned melodic band these days, I get so much Black/Death stuff. Even rarer to get an EP out of the blue that is as good as this one. Nightmare Enemy are a new band, but their music has a degree of polish and professionalism that most demo-level bands don't have. If I am reminded of any one band, it is Manticora in their early years – same glossy, propulsive riffs, same heavy sound, and similar weaknesses in the vocal department. The guitar work is really solid, with catchy riffs and a good clean sound with a lot of heaviness. Vocals seem to be shared between bassist Janne Ikonen and keyboardist Petteri Urmas, and while neither of them is great, they carry the songs well enough. They use a lot of tricks and multi-tracking to make the vocals sound better, and they do manage to conceal their shortcomings, but the band could use a real first-rate singer.

Overall this is a solid EP. The songs are energetic and complex, with plenty of heaviness and depth. The songs are well-developed and have a lot of flair. Only the aforementioned vocal weaknesses really hold this back.
