This is already the fourth album from Montreal, Quebec-based Talamyus, titled Honour Is Our Code, Death Is the Reward. Talamyus, formed in 2002, plays a kind of melodic and pretty atmospheric fusion of Black, Thrash and Death Metal, which surprisingly often reminds me of Dissection, but with a more straightforward musical approach. It's obvious that these four guys have found something fascinating in this cold and melodic Swedish (or Scandinavian) sound, assimilating and adopting it well. This particular recipe has truly paid off for them more than well, as all eleven songs on this album work equally fine. The album perhaps just lacks those true standout songs, which does not necessarily tell much because as I already stated earlier, the Talamyus troops do know how to write some immensely powerful and catchy, strongly Scandinavian-tinged melodic Metal with a fair amount of blackened Viking aesthetics.

Acoustic guitar parts and some occasional clean vocals also tend to bring a more folk-ish vibe into this well-crafted opus. "Honour to Wotan", which is also the album's longest song (10:16 minutes in length), is the most Folk-inspired song out of this opus, reminding me as much of Bathory's Viking-era as Dissection's and/or Unanimated's cold and haunting chords – and it's definitely also the guys' most ambitious effort on this album. Also, the song titled "Bring the Weak to Their Knees" tends to remind me of Swedish Viking Black/Death Metallers Allegiance, especially the ending of the song (starting from the 3:13-minute mark). 

Honour Is Our Code, Death Is the Reward is a pretty rewarding and enjoyable album altogether, especially honoring some Swedish traditions in melodic Black and Death Metal of the early 90s. So yeah, this album is absolutely worth checking out (and please tell them that you heard this from Luxi from Finland - thanks!).
