There must be something special in this Finnish Thrash Metal trio because my wife asked me to stop banging my fingers against the table while I was listening to the band's 9-track debut album, Brain Rangers, which they released independently at the beginning of June this year. "Hey, this is what good Thrash Metal is really made of," I was thinking to myself.

The album is made of intensity, lots of catchy qualities, excellent riffs and vocal work, and other simple ingredients that perfectly complement each other and form a strong, convincing wholeness. But first and foremost, there is the hungriness to prove yourself to other people, that you can really deliver the goods without putting out any half-assed, so-so material.

Brainthrash take their Bay Area-ism seriously... They created a carbon copy of the Bay Area Thrash sound (akin to early Exodus and Vio-lence, mostly) and used it shamelessly to make their own Thrash anthems. There's just nothing wrong with repeating the past works of your heroes. Whether or not I am rude for saying this, this trio doesn't even try to sound different or ultimately unique at all. Instead, they have channeled all of their energies to reignite the flame of the past (but certainly not forgotten) Bay Area Thrash Metal sound as precisely and carefully as possible. And at that, they have done a magnificent job indeed! Hell, even Kami Launonen on drums and vocals deceptively manages to sound very much like Steve "Zetro" Souza here and there, which can never be a bad thing.

Out of all nine songs, I could pick any and introduce it to anyone and say, "This is how Thrash Metal should sound like." Just do yourself a favor and check Brain Rangers out.
