Norwegian act Arkentype goes under the Progressive Metal tag as much as they would go under the Modern Metal tag, with provocative Metalcore type of vocals. This stuff contains many unorthodox, technical rhythmic patterns that are both melodic and sort of atmosphere-orientated but at the same time full of oppressive angst, pure hatred-oozing cacophony. It's a disturbing mishmash of many of those tricky elements that isn't easy to get processed and/or digested in your brain, if you happen to like more traditional, easier-to-adopt type of elements in your daily dose of Metal/Rock music. "Who Are We" is perhaps the most outstanding song off Disorientated, reminding me a bit of their avant-garde country mates Ram-Zet here and there. Dream Theater tends to pop up every now and then in some of their unconventional song structures.
There's definitely a bit too much happening within Arkentype's record for me personally and besides that, they tend to sound a bit too modern for my picky taste (especially the combination of both clean + screamed vocals, has a real turn-off effect on me, although in "Time Collapse" they seem to work somehow). Sadly, at the end of the day Arkentype's disorientated record has only one destiny and that's pretty much eternal oblivion.
