Assaulter is an Italian band that take cues from the peak of Thrash back in the late 90s. Unrelenting speed broken by the occasional slow groove characterizes almost every track on their debut full-length Meat Grinder. The vocalist barks out standard socio-political lyrics ("Terror World" "Liesocracy") with a proto-Death Metal shout before giving way to tornado-driven guitar solos. The songwriting is decent as are the performances, but the ground covered is well-worn and no one song sticks out, except maybe the disgusting sound effects at the beginning of "Bestial Vomit" which accurately describes what I want to do after listening to them.

Assaulter have nothing to offer beyond well played but generic Thrash on Meat Grinder. Fans of early Slayer, Nuclear Assault, Sacred Reich, et al should give it a listen, though with tempered expectations.
