With a name like Axemaster and a genre listed as Power Metal on Metal-Archives, I was not expecting this Ohio band's fourth album, Crawling Chaos, to a be a groove-filled, down-tuned affair. The songs bear passing resemblance to Cowboys from Hell-era Pantera and Agony Column with the vocals evoking Glenn Danzig and even Billy Milano on occasion. Crawling Chaos isn't so egregiously down-tuned that it is unlistenable, but it's the kind of music that if it was on between bands at a show, I wouldn't be wondering who it was. The riffs do pack a lot of punch and the singer has a powerful delivery that suits the songs well, but the style is just not my cup of tea. Your mileage may vary, especially if you don't mind more than a bit of groove in the mix. |
