Sombre Croisade (Dark Crusade in French) play a brand of black metal that I used to run into a lot back in the early 2000s, and I'll drop the name Hegemon (another French band) circa Chaos Supreme as a reference point. Not lo-fi, but with a lo-fi, raw vibe, fast and just a tad messy here and there and slowing them just in the right places, with some black metal rasps that blend very well with the music, not taking your attention away from the music but rather just complementing it. Add some little more melodic bits here and there for seasoning and wrap everything in a bleak, dark, borderline depressing atmosphere. That's Balancier des âmes in a nutshell. I'm a sucker for that brand of black metal and Sombre Croisade deliver the goods.
