The black/thrash (or first-wave black metal) revival shows no signs of slowing down in 2018 and Hells Headbangers Records give us another dose, this one from Cleveland, OH's Hammr. Lone member J. Hammer deals in speed, Satan and swampy vocals, going for a sound not unlike Venom's early Neat Records efforts. Punk is a huge influence on Hammr and that gives the debut album Unholy Destruction a chaotic feel that suits the music but overall it is standard black/thrash that you've heard a hundred times before. I've heard worse, but I've also heard better. |
