Avslut present here some fast-paced black metal that's deeply rooted in the second wave and, if one was to hear only a couple of the songs off Deceptis, they might be tempted to write them off as "just another one of those". Taken as a whole, the band actually does vary things quite a bit and the whole thing just gels together. The raw speed of some tracks is complemented by more intricate material where atmosphere and melody take centre stage while still leaving some room for speedy insanity in the background (the drums, especially). It's not spectacular and doesn't really bring anything new to the table, but Deceptis is one of those albums that just flows well and that you can keep listening to over and over without getting tired of it. |
