Power Metal and Italy in the same sentence may scare those who don't like a sugary, melodic approach, but what we have here on The Fallen King, debut album by the Milanese group, tends to fall more under a Triosphere and Unleash the Archers vibe, despite the band comparing themselves in the promo sheet with Sonata Arctica and Wintersun. From the virtuous Talia Bellazecca thrashing everything with catchy riffs and solos to Giada Etro's powerful and delighting vocals, Frozen Crown created one of the best Power Metal albums of the year so far. Heavier parts and some Death-like growls from Frederico Mondelli intertwine with the characteristic Euro Power elements to form an interesting and refreshing experience. Songs like the juggernaut "Fail No More", the absurdly catchy "Kings" and "Shieldmaiden" – the latter one, despite being cliché, will serve perfectly those who are looking for some straight-up Euro Power – are absolutely killer, while less prominent songs like "I Am the Tyrant", featuring some of the best riffs on the album and led by an awesome duo between Mondelli (this time around with a clean voice) and Etro, are still good enough to be better than 80% of what's been released in the genre this year; I cannot recommend this enough, as it's nothing short of impressive. |
