Altar of Decay first saw life as a demo and then got all sorts of physical release treatment. It's death metal at the root with a gloomy, crushing doom vibe throughout. The vocals are low grows that kind of get lost in the mix at times, but to good effect. While the band hails from Washington state, I can hear quite a bit of the U.S. East Coast sound in there. Most of it is, as one can expect from the genre, rather slow, but they do speed things up a little here and there, but definitely don't expect to be thrashing around the house while listening to this EP. It's not very long but it's a good sign of things to come for Mortiferum. |
