Funeral Mist, a black metal band name if ever there was one, is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Arioch, who has also been the vocalist for Marduk since 2004 (under a different stage name). There are plenty of rasping vocals, blasting drums and insanely fast riffing on Hekatomb, the band's third full-length, so if pure aggression is your thing, you'll find a decent amount here. Funeral Mist also adds some different elements like death growls, sparse, atmospheric, passages and off-key chanting, so while Hekatomb is firmly rooted in traditional black metal you could add "experimental" to a description of the music but don't let that scare you off. Even though some of the gambles don't really pay off (I found the chanting distracting), they aren't the main focus; evil, tortured black metal is, so get your corpse paint on. |
