A recent blind purchase at a local record store, this is Fantom Warrior's 1986 demo reissued on 12" vinyl. These Americans play a brand of thrash that's more reminiscent of German thrash back in those days than what was being done in the U.S., though you can hear some hints of that as well. The vocals are totally sick and a highlight here, sounding a little bit like Mille Petrozza on early Kreator albums but often higher pitched. While the album sounds kind of clean, Fantom Warrior's music is fast, heavy and has one hell of a raw bite and borrows a bit of Venom's knack for atmosphere while rocking it all out. Fun and addictive. |
