Haunting was a short-lived band from Atlanta that only managed one self-released demo back in 2014 (now getting a vinyl release from Boris Records). Sealed Shut contains four tracks of thrashy, early 80s-inspired death metal (plus an intro not on the original demo tape of the same name) that hearkens back to Possessed and Onslaught. The riffs are heavy and melodic and the drumming warm and organic while the vocals are a croaking shout that thankfully avoids cookie monster territory. Sealed Shut isn't really a revival of Death or some melodic BS, it's just simple, chaotically evil death metal and even though it isn't revolutionary, it's pretty damn refreshing. Makes me wish these guys hung in there longer before splitting up. Can't win 'em all, but this is well worth a listen. |
