Review

Speed Between the Lines is the sixth full-length from Northern Ireland's Gama Bomb and it is filled with the rapid-fire riffing and leather-lunged screaming we've come to expect from the lads. Humor and horror are still major influences on Gama Bomb's lyrics as tracks like "666teen" and "We R Going 2 Eat U" should attest. The songwriting is often upbeat (hard to be funny playing funeral doom, right?) a la Anthrax mixed with Nuclear Assault speed, and you can almost picture the smoke rising from the guitars. Gama Bomb have a good feel for late 80s thrash and the songs on Speed Between the Lines are almost all enjoyable, much the same as the last record I reviewed, The Terror Tapes. And that would be the only knock on Gama Bomb; if you've heard The Terror Tapes, you've essentially heard Speed Between the Lines. That doesn't make it bad, far from it, but unlike the horror topics the band sings about, it isn't going to jump out and surprise you.
