A lot of things have happened with Chilean Heavy Metallers Battlerage since their previous album, titled True Metal Victory, was released in 2011. The line-up is almost entirely new on the band's fourth album, Dreams in Darkness. Vocalist Fox-Lin Torres is the only member left from the band's previous line-up. This is not something that you should be worried about a bit because Fox-Lin's characteristic and distinctive gruff vocal parts have once again given—more or less—a true face to Battlerage's epic Heavy Metal anthems. With the new team around him, nothing stops Battlerage from doing the kickass and killer stuff that they've been known for on their past releases.

The album kicks off with "Victim of a Liar Heart", which is nothing but a stellar opener, with some nice and sharp guitar riffs cutting through the air, supported by a great sense for melodies and so on. Let's not forget Fox-Lin's terrific vocal performance. "Immortal Sin" pushes the band into a tad more epic sounding mold. "I See the Winter in Your Heart" represents the band's more melodic, slower and doom-ish side. On this one Fox-Lin shows that he can also sing clean. As the album progresses on, the listener will soon notice that the band has managed to keep the songwriting level high again. There's no dull moment to be found on this album, and I also found it pretty cool that they used their mother tongue of Spanish on "Placer Infernal", bringing in a nice extra twist.

These fellows still know what it takes to deliver the goods despite the turmoil the band has gone through over the past few years. Check this out, and see you in darkness.
