Tuomas Saukkonen is really making a name for himself and for Wolfheart. Releasing their fourth album in a little more than a five-year span, the Finnish group led by this truly intelligent and gifted dude delivers a massive statement regarding deep, personal songwriting and a rich, layered sound. Tyhjyys has only been out for a little more than a year and it's a magnificent album, so to top that would take a considerable amount of inspiration and raw talent, which gladly seems to run in Saukkonen and his friend's veins. From the quiet, almost atmospheric beginning notes of "Everlasting Fall" to the heroic, epic ending in "Valkyrie", Constellation of the Black Light is a true lesson of how to create killer riffs, emotional passages and a meaningful, lasting sound. From the fiery moments like in "Breakwater" and "Warfare" to folky, melodic ones like with the already mentioned "Valkyrie" and "Forged With Fire", this is a complete and mature album that further consolidates Wolfheart as one of the best Melodic Death acts around, if not one of the best in any genre. This is easily one of the most memorable efforts of 2018 so far. |
