Philippine thrashers Mass Hypnosia strike back with their third studio album, Vicious. As the album's title suggests, you won't get any beautiful gospel jeremiads performed by a bunch of innocent choir boys but can rather associate the word 'vicious' with these poor and innocent choir boys' screaming in utter pain when being butt-fucked and mercilessly raped by some pervert priests, in the name of all that's holy.
Ahem, sorry for this cheap and awful way to start this review but let me tell you one thing right off the bat: this Philippine trio sounds lovely vicious, explosive and aggressive, playing all kinds of nastiness and evilness oozing thrash metal, reminding me of Merciless (Sweden), old Kreator, Possessed, early Slayer, Sadus and the like. The band's thrash bombardment hits its targets very well: the songs hurt, rip, slash and tear you apart by their sheer pulverizing rage. It cannot get any more old-school thrash than this. Many new thrash bands seem to have forgotten one thing: rawness, ugliness, and harshness also are all some of the most vital parts of old school thrash metal. Fortunately, Mass Hypnosia have plenty of these essential ingredients on this album.
