Well, this is some truly creepy and haunting black metal from Colorado's Aoratos on their debut album, Gods Without Name. I like a solid bit of blasting as much as the next guy but Aoratos make wonderful use of pacing and tempo changes to create hellish and disturbing atmospheres throughout the album. They can unleash unholy power ("Thresher") or evoke dread ("Parallax II") with equal skill. This is not a record for cruising with the top down, it is for darkened rooms and desolate places. Gods Without Name is not your typical black metal and is well worth tracking down if you're looking to take a walk down the left-hand path. |
