Your mileage may vary, but other than their first album, most of Angel Witch's output hasn't done much for me. Mind you, it's Angel Witch, so every time there's something new, I have to check it out. Not much luck so far, and Angel of Light doesn't do much to change the trend. It's undeniably Angel Witch—anyone who has heard them before will know it's them as old-school, barebones melodic heavy metal is still the staple of the band. But it's 2019 and this falls kind of flat. There's nothing particularly memorable and really nothing to get excited about here (never felt the urge to sing along, headbang or anything of the sort). It's like they're just going through the motions and playing it really, really safe. Lots of newer bands toying with the same sound do it better these days, so if not for the band's name this album would likely go unnoticed. It's not bad, just kind of bland and uneventful. |
