Xoth is a band I'd never heard of before their second album, Interdimensional Invocations, dropped into my review queue. The cover artwork has a sort of Lovecraftian vibe and song titles like "Unseen Abductor" and "The Ghost Hand of God" further cement the feeling of weird horror it appears the band is going for. Musically, this is thrashy death/black metal that is bruising at one turn, face-melting at the next but ultimately generic with no one song rising above the rest. I didn't hate Interdimensional Invocations by any stretch while it was on, but I wasn't racing to get back to it once it ended either. Xoth plays well but they are one of thousands that do the same, making it hard to get overly excited about them. |
