Warsenal's Feast Your Eyes brings me back to the early '80s when terms like "thrash" and "speed" metal were just gaining popularity. The track "Lords of Rifftown" neatly encapsulates this manic whirlwind of frantic guitars and machine-gun drumming. Warsenal does slow things down occasionally, but only for a breath or two, then mashes the gas pedal back to the floor, flying through the 36+ minutes of music on Feast Your Eyes in a frenetic blur. The songwriting is generic but tracks like "Forever Lost", "I Am the Blade" and "Crystal Whip" have an edge in terms of catchiness and there is nothing in the way of a bad song on the album. This one is for fans of early Megadeth, when they called themselves "State of the Art Speed Metal" along with Kill 'Em All (because, Mustaine) plus bands like Agent Steel and Exciter. Warsenal is not yet the songwriters those bands were but they've got the speed part to a tee. |
