I've been listening to this album for a while and it's just one of those that I can't sit down and write about. I'm not familiar with Gatecreeper's earlier work, but on Deserted they play largely slow to mid-paced death metal with the occasional speedy bits and with a good dose of heaviness, but it's safe to the point of being downright bland. Not bad, just bland. Basically 40 minutes of songs that just don't stand apart from each other, though there are of course a few remarkable passages here and there but they're few and far between. It works really well as background music but there's nothing here to get particularly excited about. |
