Guerra Total have come a long way since they formed in 2002. Starting as a filthy blackened Speed Metal band that no one cared about, they've since become a Death/Thrash act that's actually become one of the most well known and respected bands to come from Colombia, and on their ninth studio album, War Is the Pursuit of Death: A Hymnal for the Misanthrope, (don't expect me to type that out again), they show no signs of slowing down.
Guerra Total have never been about reinventing the wheel so much as using it to run your ass over again and again and again. Their brand of primal, ferocious Death/Thrash is as present as ever, and they're not interested in doing anything new with it. What they have done is refine it over their career, developing into much better players and songwriters and becoming comparable to Peru's own Mortem in the process, particularly Deinós Nekrómantis. This album is just nine tracks of good ol' fashioned Death/Thrash with a surprising amount of dynamic and more than enough enthusiasm to sail the band past the need to innovate. In short, Guerra Total fuckin' rules, and you'll agree with me after giving this a spin.
