This is an EP recorded at the same time as the previous year's "Dol Guldur", and contains four songs written for that album which couldn't be crammed into that already too-long disc. For the band's part they have stated this is really a continuation of that CD, and should be seen as part of the same album.
Stylistically this is more of what we listen to Summoning for: Long atmospheric songs with symphonic keys and pounding drum samples. The guitars are rather weak on this recording, but the drums are punchier, and the vocals as always are rather understated. At over 30 minutes this is as long as some albums by Death Metal bands, and I have to say the length fits much better than the rather overlong "Dol Guldur". I think 30-40 minutes would be the ideal length at which to experience Summoning, and I find I like this disc better than the full-length that came before it. If you like Summoning, then this is another one for the collection, and if you like Summoning but think they go on too long, then this is definitely the album for you. This band may tend to drone a bit (and if you don't think so, try listening to "Minas Morgul", "Dol Guldur" and this one all in a row. I dare you.) But they remain undeniably cool and highly original.
