This one flew below my radar a couple of years ago. I quite like Superchrist, so of course I'm interested when Chris Black does something. Professor Black is less Motörhead-ish than Superchrist and instead focuses on a traditional heavy metal approach. This, of course, has some old-school vibes all over, but it sounds more modern both in delivery and in songwriting, so there's something here to please people who can't get enough of the old school and those who prefer a more modern taken on the genre—and when I say "modern", I don't mean "modern metal" which is used to hide crappy pop metal these days.
The vocals are crystal clear while maintaining a bit of a rough edge that helps pack more punch in the songs. I really like the guitars on this; lots of catchy riffs and solos, kind of an upbeat easygoing style that makes You Bastard! quite fun to listen to and gives it some staying power. You Bastard! is on the short side, but packs a lot of crunchy, powerful traditional metal full of those clichés that we can't enough of.
