I mistakenly bought the vinyl for this a couple of years ago. That earns me the right to bitch. This is where Entombed went from Swedish death metal pioneers to... er... well... this. If you're expecting death metal, you've got another thing coming. Here they went more the way of modern-ish metal. I don't know if that was the dreaded '90s screwing metal over or what, but they band completely changed their sound with this album, and it's drastic enough that they should have changed the band's name. It's not all bad. The album has a bit of a groovy and catchy vibe and some of the guitar playing is actually pretty damn cool. The vocals, on the other hand, are akin to the garbage we had to endure for many years, largely in the '90s and early 2000s and to some extent even to this day. Clean-ish screamed vocals that just get on the nerves—in a bad way. That's too bad because some songs are good until the vocals kick in. No doubt that the music here attracted many people as it's not inherently bad but, as an Entombed album, well... no. Death metal wasn't my "scene" back in those days, but I can't imagine most of their fans reacting very well to this release after their amazing first two albums, now classics of the genre. It's kind of maddening hearing their talent pop up throughout the album and wasting it on something that was just becoming the trend of the day in the mainstream world.
