Well, these guys are insane. Autokrator play some brutal death metal on this one, not your typical brutal all-hell-breaks-loose, but rather it just feels brutal. Surgical precision, razor-sharp guitars slice through the air and rip everything they come into contact with, and the raucous but deep growls add to the massive heaviness conveyed by the drums and bass. The resulting atmosphere is dark, evil and crushing as hell, for an unforgettable effect. This would all be nice and dandy if not for some yelling and what sounds like screams of someone being tortured at the end of "Impure Blood" and some creepy spoken parts (creepy stuff) on "Interlude". It's really well done for what it is, but personally I found that annoying and, while it fits the aforementioned atmosphere, I find that it breaks the continuity of the album. Still an interesting number nonetheless. Despite the annoyance, I've found Hammer of the Heretics to be a regular go-to album for some savage death metal. |
