Golgata are a Swedish band that don't sound especially Swedish. Melodic Black Metal is the game here, and the sound is pretty good, with a solid guitar tone and a lot of smooth, melodic riffing. There is a hint here and there of Viking sounds, with some clean-sung chants, but most of the vocals are rasps mixed so low they blend into the rest of the music. Compositionally this is a bit flat, as the songs don't have a lot of variation once they get going, and there are not quite enough riffs on hand to really carry the songs through their running times. It says something that these tracks are all in the 4-5 minute range, but they feel longer. This is good but not great. |
