I've been listening to this album off-and-on for months and it keeps kicking my ass with its sound of pure hatred. The plague is religion, and they go all out after it (unfortunately there's no vaccine for that one, though some of us do develop immunity over time... ;)) Mercyless keep it old school here: no gimmicks, just raw, basic death metal with attitude and hate to spare. The harsh growls, decipherable with a little effort, sound hateful and contemptuous as hell. The music, while it has its speedy moments, is slow to mid-paced and there's that ominous wall of crushing sound that gives you the feeling that you're surrounded by dark forces and have nowhere to escape. The Mother of All Plagues won't please those into ultra technical death metal, but if you're looking for the real thing, that is raw, dark, evil, heavy, pounding and delivered with attitude, then this should be near the top of your list. |
