Active since 2014, this Canadian band has been building a bit of a rep as a straight-up Heavy Metal band with a lot of energy and talent. I was psyched to hear this, but afterward I find myself disappointed. The riffs are heavy, but not very memorable, and the songwriting is the kind where after the halfway mark of a song, things just repeat. Vocalist Nick Allaire sounds like he could do better than this, but here he is so overdubbed you can hardly tell what he sounds like. His midrange is workmanlike, but his upper range is screechy and sounds terrible—worse when there are six of him stacked up on top of each other. It would help if the vocal lines were any good, but they are mostly kind of dull. Here and there some good riffs or melodies pop up, as on "Demon Wick", but then everything just repeats until it has lost all interest. I had heard good things about this band, but now I see why I have not heard more. |
