This is atmospheric Black Metal that harks back to an earlier meaning of the term, rather than following in the Cascadian or Summoning-driven footfalls of a lot of other bands under this flag, Atrium go for a sound that is much more keyboard-focused rather than using tremolo riffing to fill the space. Thus, this falls more in the realm of old Emperor, later Evilfeast, or even Limbonic Art, though this is much more moody and laid-back. There's not a lot of intensity here, rather a soothing album of theatrical keys and other sounds that are mostly just in the background. It's agreeable enough, but not something you will get really excited about—it's not that kind of music. |
