Perpetual Etude is a melodic metal band out of Sweden and Now Is the Time appears to be their debut album. Their approach is a familiar one, with clear singing, ultra-catchy hooks and guitars that share equally with the keyboards, at least until it is time one of the tasty neoclassical solos. The song "Show Me" is the definition of accessible, the kind of song that could have garnered serious airplay in the '80s with its ear-friendly melody and sing along chorus, but Perpetual Etude can dig into a riff and crank up the crunch when they want to ("Once We Were One", "Hell Fire Burn"). The production is slick and glossy with tight performances to go along with some solid songwriting. Now Is the Time is going to appeal most to fans of post-Dio Rainbow, Fifth Angel, Stargazery and bands like that. Like a lot of music today, it isn't what you'd call original but that doesn't stop it from being entertaining if melodic metal/hard rock is your thing. |
